IN THE LATE 70’S CAMBODIA WAS BOMBED, HEAVILY LAND MINED AND SAW THE SYSTEMATIC EXECUTION OF THE TOP 25% OF ITS POPULATION UNDER POLPOT.
SADLY, CAMBODIA NOW SUFFERS A NEW ENEMY, “AIDS", AMONGST THE HIGHEST RATES OUTSIDE OF AFRICA. RESULTING IN AN ESTIMATED 15,000 DEATHS AND 30,000 NEW ORPHANS EACH YEAR.STILL RECOVERING FROM ITS VIOLENT AND TRAUMATIC HISTORY, MUCH OF CAMBODIA REMAINS WITHOUT ANY RELIABLE ECONOMIC OR SOCIAL INFRASTRUCTURE. WITH THE CURRENT FOOD SHORTAGE THE RICE OF RICE HAS RISEN FROM $13 in April 2008 to currently at US$30
We at Periurban realise the fate of these communities in Cambodia and give of our time & expertise to support Lesley Hewett founder of Focus Cambodia in assisting our neighbours who really just live up the road a bit & could use a bit of a hand
