The overriding aim of this site is that it will be a place where we can bring the city & the bush closer together, that does included the peri-urbans of which they say are 1.3 million of us in Australian. In Victoria 25% of agriculture production comes from periurbans
So what is a peri-urban you ask? It’s someone who resides on the perimeters of urban areas, hence the term ‘peri’, and properties can range from around 5 to 100 acres in size.
With Peri-urban agriculture in the five mainland states produces about 25 per cent of Australia’s total gross value of agricultural production. (Geographical Research, June 2005)
Peri-urban agriculture is highly productive and valuable and ranges from hi-tech, controlled-environment agriculture (e.g. mushroom farming) through to community gardens and nurseries, specialist organic farms and hobby farms providing benefits including community cohesion, eco-tourism and health
With the trends of sea change & tree change there are fast becoming more of us. Usually quite well educated, normally doing something else beside living on a small property (Education actually means to draw out that which is within) There are a lot of peri-urbans who have had their education in the school of hard knocks, nothing like a little pain to act as a rudder in this so called life journey!
There is a lot of wisdom, innovation & ideas living on the fringes of urbanisation hopefully with Periurban we can have a place to share that, bring it out & have a bit of fun along the way
· Raise issues for debate what’s happening Geraldton’s Moresby Ranges is applicable to any expanding towns hinterland
· Another aim is to provide a conduit for publishers of helpful articles to teach, inspire to simply make life a bit easier with the right information at the time it’s needed
· To provide links to the appropriate services that you only seem to find or hear about when you no longer need them!
That’s probably enough at the moment we can make some more up soon or they will reveal themselves as we start communicating with each other
